It is a computer file used to make and show slides. You show these slides on a big screen to help people understand your ideas.
In the past, slide files ended in .ppt. Now they end in .pptx. The "X" stands for XML. Think of XML as a very neat, organized box that zips your words and pictures tightly together. This makes the file size small and stops it from breaking.

A blank slide is scary. PPTX files give you layouts. Layouts are like boxes ready to be filled. You put your title in one box and your picture in another. This keeps your slides neat and clean.
You do not need to leave your slide to show a video. You can put videos, sounds, and pictures directly onto the slide. The file holds onto them so they do not get lost.
To keep people awake and looking at your screen, you can make things move. This is called animation. Words can fly in from the side. Pictures can fade away when you click a button.

A long list of numbers is boring and hard to read. PPTX lets you build charts. A chart changes numbers into shapes, like tall bars or pizza slices. This helps people see what the numbers mean right away.

Just because you can put a thousand words on a slide, does not mean you should. Follow these simple rules so people enjoy listening to you.
Make sure people in the very back row can read the letters easily.
Use a few words. You should speak the details out loud, not type them all on the screen.
A giant, clear picture is better than five tiny, blurry pictures.
Never turn your back to the people to read words off the screen.
You do not have to memorize your whole speech. You can type hidden notes at the bottom of each slide. The people in the room will only see the big pictures on the TV, while you read your notes from your laptop screen.
If you want to put your company logo on every single slide, do not copy and paste it 50 times. Use the Master Slide. It acts like the boss. Whatever you put on the Master Slide automatically appears on all the other slides below it.
